How bad luck inspired this D&D adventure

Would you believe a square-shaped, metal nail was the inspiration for one of our Heroes B&B Dungeons & Dragons’ adventures? It’s true!
And yes, more than a bit strange but here’s how it happened.
We were with family in the Sierra Mountains in eastern California. This is a favorite spot for its hiking, fishing and high desert beauty. Not to mention considerable history. We were visiting one of those historic sites, a ghost town, when my dad picked up a square-shaped metal nail. Evidently, the shape of the nail was unique to that era and thus was a considerable “find.” If you’re a building nut anyway …. Regardless, the nail was all but forgotten until we visited the park’s bookstore. Toward the back of the bookstore there was a hefty scrapbook filled with letters penned from dozens of past ghost town visitors. Each of the handwritten letters detailed a piece of unfortunate bad luck. Car crash on the way home. Their pet suddenly died. Returned home to discover they had lost their job. The single piece linking all this of bad luck? Each person had taken home a square-shaped nail from the ghost town. Suffice to say, my dad’s “find” was returned to the spot where he found it. And that spurred my interest in ghost town history, and thus our Heroes B&B adventure, “A Second Chance.” Ever heard of a Metal Swan? Know how many “veins” of gold fueled the rise of this place to become one of the state’s biggest Boomtowns? You'll find out when you participate in “Second Chance," one of our weekend-long adventures. Which reminds me. If you play the adventure, you might want to leave those square-

shaped nails alone …. 😊
